The Mandrillz – Cardano NFT
A project that was born in honor of the 80s and 90s, in honor of the old school period. Anyone born in those decades, can relate and everyone that is not, can adapt.
Concept
“When a meteor strikes a zoo, the mandrill enclosure is largely destroyed and the survivors flee in a mutated state. Before moving into their natural habitat though, they steal a lot of things from us in order to start anew. And since the mandrills have Leondrill, their leader, nothing will stop them from building their own civilization in the jungle.”
The story reminds me a lot of the movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a trilogy that tells a similar story and the independence that the apes are seeking.
Even though the story is quite interesting, The Mandrillz is mainly an art-based project that offers us a unique mandrill for our NFT Collection. Aside from that, the purpose of the project is also to keep the 80s and 90s alive in our memories. Because every trait and background that you will see in the artwork is a part of those decades.
Furthermore, their approach includes efforts to bring community members from other blockchains into the Cardano. And introduce them to a whole new world. Finally, something that every NFT collector loves is the addition of benefits. And by holding a Mandrillz you will receive plenty of them, mainly in the form of airdrops.
Team
The Mandrillz team consists of four members and some of them quite known to the Cardano Community. To begin with, we have Rob , the founder of the Zeitgeist Pool and a Cardano enthusiast since 2017. Then, there is Brillo and Rosk, who are the coding experts of the project and the ones to get involved in the crypto world through Rob. That is a wonderful family we have here, am I right? And lastly, we have the illustration expert Seb, with over 20+ years of experience in graffiti, illustration and design. Now, from what little I have seen and my experience mainly with Rob, the team seems like a trustworthy one. And with the experience they possess, we can expect big things in the future.
Discord & Twitter
The community of The Mandrillz is growing at a fast rate, as I can see a hype around projects featuring apes. And there is an adequate engagement for the followers that it currently has. Concerning the Discord server everything is in order and I can see some community centered channels. However, it is still early and I expect the team to host many more community driven events. For example, games, where the community can have some fun. Basically, what I mean is for the members to actually want to stay and engage as much as possible with everyone. Because that is the definition of a successful community and that is what the team strives for according to their interview.

Artwork
The artwork uses a comic style for the mandrills with a graffiti background. And this is actually a great combination that provides the details of a comic art and the bright colors of a graffiti art. Speaking of details, I just love the genuine and clean work. As it really shows that the Artist put a lot of effort into the creation of each piece. And lastly, I want to note here that every piece is hand-drawn, which for me adds some extra points.
You can see some examples of the artwork below:
Website
The website is an extention of the project and suits the whole theme perfectly. And it contains everything that you need, to conduct a thorough research. So, I honestly can’t see anything wrong with it, and I have to give credits to the developer that created it.
Roadmap
The project has no traditional roadmap, but it has a dynamic roadmap as it claims. And the dynamic roadmap is the decisions made by the community itself. Also, in order to maintain a dynamic roadmap, you actually need to have a very engaged community. So this will be a challenge for the team and we have to see how it will be implemented. Finally, with a disclaimer of not wanting to overpromise, the team wishes to include their version of Drillz City into a Metaverse, such as Sandbox or Pavia.
Closing Thoughts
The Mandrillz is a project that was carefully launched and by a transparent team with a lot of experience. Consequently, the artwork and website are of top quality. Also, their approach to bring members from other chains and unite them into one big community is truly respected. However, a lot more work needs to be done, in order to maintain a great environment in their Community servers (Discord).
